FRANCES H. GEARHART (1869-1958)
DESERT BARRIER c. 1933
Color block print, unsigned 12 x 9 ¼”. Typical original margins on good fibrous japan paper. Many very good impressions by Gearhart are unsigned. The lack of a signature is not unusual and in no way reflects lack of quality. A few soft creases in lower right margin corner. Some ink wiping marks in the right crevasse showing each Gearhart's ink application is unique to each impression. She changes colors. Other Desert Barriers have varying sky color for example. Every Gearhart is individually printed.
This print is from Gearhart's fully mature and Grand Period when she produced most of her largest block prints $5800
