Gerald Brockhurst (England 1890 - 1978 U.S.A) was an English draftsman, painter and etcher, famous for his portraiture. Something of an artistic prodigy, Brockhurst entered the Birmingham School at Art at the age of 12. Coming to printmaking later than most, he began exhibiting with the Society of Graphic Artists in 1921 and he is best known for his small etched prints of beautiful, idealized women. His portraits are intimate, with the sitting model almost always being portrayed from only the waist up, with an emphasis on the face. The women often are making eye contact with the viewer, and their gaze is warm and inviting. During the 1930s and 1940s he was a celebrity portraitist, painting society figures such as Marlene Dietrich and the Duchess of Windsor.  He moved to the United States in 1939, where he lived for the remainder of his life.
