An original woodcut print depicting the social unrest of the 1960s by Herman Roderick Volz. Pencil signed by the artist lower right.

Image measures 11 1/2" x 14 1/2," sheet measures 14 3/4" x 17 5/8.” In excellent condition. Un-matted and never framed. This print is no. 8 of the edition of 35.

Herman Volz (1904-1990) was a painter, muralist, lithographer, set designer, and ceramist. His formal training was at the Art und Gewerbescule in Zurich and the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. He immigrated from Zurich to the U.S. in 1933, settling in the San Francisco Bay Area, and became a citizen in 1938. During the Depression Volz was appointed supervisor in the Northern California Arts Project and supervisor for the Federal Building mural project at the G.G.I.E. Volz designed sets for MGM and Paramount Studios. He was politically active, vocal and often made social statements through his imagery.
